Rival Crockpot lid shattered

What the???

I had 2 chicken breasts in my crockpot cooking away like they're supposed to. I put them in a little later in the afternoon, so I had them on high. I was sitting in the computer room when I heard a loud pop from my kitchen. Upon inspection, the crockpot lid shattered into tons of pieces. It was all intact until Matt tried to lift it up. The handle came right off and the glass all fell into the pot. I have no clue why it would have done that. I've used the crockpot for so many things, but I've never had this happen. There was ample water, so it wasn't because it had boiled out or anything. Nothing else seemed amiss.

I JUST threw out the box too. I've had this crockpot for only a few months. Lame.

Whoa, no way! That's insane! I'd call them up, they should fix it, even if you don't have the box anymore. I wonder if that's happened to anyone else?

Yeah, that is definitely a defective crock pot. I would contact them as well. That's really scary...someone could have gotten hurt.

You were right Erin S. I called them today and they couldn't find a replacement lid for my product so they're sending me a whole new thing. Even without my box. Cool.

I found this on a search today, because my crock pot lid shattered for no reason today also!

It was at a potluck, no less, and ruined the food in the pot as well as all the food on the table. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but this is very DANGEROUS.

That stinks Mat. Seriously contact them and they'll most likely replace it. It's hazardous.

Same thing just happened to our Europro crockpot. Stew was cooking along as usual on its merry way when we heard a loud pop. Little microscopic shards of glass now everywhere, in the food, on the counter-top, around the crock pot...

The lid to my crock pot was sitting on the counter. We had just finished Easter Dinner. It was not hot not even warm. Nothing fell on it. No one was at the counter. There is no reasonable explanation. It just exploded. Glass all over the counter & clear over to the table. The only injury was to my daughter's finger, cut by glass embedded in an electric cord that was near it.

mine just exploded tonight. I've had it for 5 years. Who knew? I wonder if the seal of the lid got too tight and produced a vacuum with the steam somehow? Who knows!

Just happened to me last night with a Farberware Crock Pot. Putting up my Christmas Tree and heard a loud pop from the kitchen just like everyone else. Found this thread while searching. Glad to see that I am not the only one. No one I talked to today had heard of such a thing. I have an email into Farberware.

Our Calphalon 7-qt. Digital Slow Cooker glass lid shattered into thousands of pieces this morning with a stew cooking on low. Like everone else, I heard a loud pop/crack even over the music I was playing to find the lid intact, but completely shattered. It is also has a metal rim like these others. We have only used it 3 or 4 times. Called Calphalon and the representative was shocked. She requested that a picture be emailed, then a new lid will be issued. This is even a brand new product on their cookware line! What a disappointment, especialy from a higher end company.

My Crockpot was sitting on a shelf in my kitchen with the lid sitting upside-down. We hadn't used it in about a month, and it spontaneously shattered into itself... I mean I am just bewildered

Yes, I had chili in crock pot on low for around 4/5 hrs. When returned home lid was shattered. I was pissed, I was in the mood for the chili during football game.

My slow cooker is a Kenmore 81179. I'm not sure who manufactured it, but I had the same issue with the lid. It was completely cooled and sitting on my kitchen counter, when we heard the noise. The lid shattered and pieces of glass were blown out. This could be a real hazard.

Just ruined a very nice pot of chili when the lid to my Rival 3860 crock self-destructed. No harm done except to the chili and to my confidence in Rival

Mine just exploded as well, on my Chicken dinner. What is the reasoning behind this?

Mine literally just exploded in my closet. Scared me to death. Sounded like a gunshot. Glad to know I'm not the only one this happened to.

We've used this Rival Crockpot TWICE with no problem. But the third time was NOT the charm. The oval top shattered and ruined our whole chicken with glass shards. This seems to be a re-occurring problem over the years.

This just happened to me with a crock pot brand lid??? Wasn't warm to cold or anything, just put it on the counter after washing and the loud pop - so weird!!

After only using my crackpot twice my lid shattered everywhere. It had just been placed on my counter to dry. Whats the quickest way to get it replaced?
